Doctoral focal award plus: innovating in data-driven research

This call commissions one doctoral focal award plus to develop social scientists with skills in data-driven research approaches through doctoral studentships and career stage support. Applicants must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for ESRC funding. The application deadline is 14 October 2026.

This call is a UK-based doctoral training program focused on social science research methods, not semiconductor, AI, or deep tech development. Acme Corporation, a semiconductor and AI company, is ineligible as the program explicitly requires applicants to be research organisations (universities) and targets social scientists, not industrial innovators.
